Anti-Trafficking Project – A Community-Centered Approach to Prevention and Protection
Since the end of 2016-17, Khalisady Anubhab Welfare Association (KAWA) has been implementing an exclusive Anti-Trafficking Project in North and South 24 Parganas, in collaboration with the My Choices Foundation. This initiative aims to combat human trafficking through a dual focus on prevention and protection, targeting both vulnerable communities and systemic gaps.
The cornerstone of the project is the “Save Village Program”, a grassroots movement designed to raise awareness across all layers of the family and community structure. By educating people about the dangers, tactics, and consequences of trafficking, the program empowers individuals and families to recognize and resist exploitation.
To reach every segment of the population, the project organizes parallel School and Village Programs, ensuring that both young students and adult community members are informed and vigilant. These programs include interactive workshops, awareness sessions, and participatory discussions tailored to the local context.
A key innovation of the project is the creation of local safeguarding networks. From these sessions, committed individuals are identified and trained as Village “Rakshaks” (Protectors) and Nodal Teachers, who serve as the first line of defense within their communities and schools. They act as watchful guides, facilitators of information, and points of contact for any future anti-trafficking interventions.
Through this inclusive and sustainable model, KAWA and My Choices Foundation are building a protective shield around vulnerable populations—ensuring that communities are informed, resilient, and united in the fight against trafficking.
